Musaffah, often spelled Mussafah, is Abu Dhabi's main industrial area. Workshops, fabrication shops, garages, warehouses and small factories line street after street, and nearly all of them produce metal scrap as part of normal work.
A lot of that scrap sits in a corner for months because nobody has time to deal with it. It is usually worth more than people think, and it takes up space that could be earning.
What Musaffah produces
- Fabrication shops: steel offcuts, plate, pipe, beams and aluminium profiles
- Machine shops: turnings from steel, brass, bronze and aluminium, and worn tooling
- Garages: radiators, batteries, alloy wheels, engines, gearboxes and body parts
- Electrical contractors: cable offcuts, copper bus bar, old panels and motors
- AC and refrigeration workshops: copper pipe, radiators and compressors
- Warehouses and stores: racking, shelving, old machines and mixed metal
What is it worth?
It depends on the metal and how clean it is. Copper and brass pay the most, then aluminium and stainless, then steel. Anything with a motor in it carries copper. Batteries are paid by weight for the lead inside.
Rates follow the international metal markets, so the number for a given grade changes from day to day. How scrap prices are set explains why.
Getting it sold
